Starting Usability from Scratch

How a person in the organization should start Usability as a practice.what are the challenges  to convince the top managment? How to create Templates for User Centered Analysis process. This discussion might give an idea for the people who want to start from scratch.

That's great! 

This is a nice way to spread the awareness and sell it to Management as well. 

It's more like demonstrating the advantages of usability evaluation on the go.

I cannot say this is success story but partially yes....

In my organization most of the projects are running (for eg. 4 years like).

It would be difficult to implement the complete UCD process when projects are running. I gave a presentation to the client partners about the capability we have, from that time we are getting more and more heuristic evaluation. which we are accepting and suggesting solutions / educating them to have a complete process. Now we have submitted RFPs which has usability process defined. So i am dam sure in near future we will do the complete UCD process. Don't ignore when people asked you to do a part of usability, in return you will get visibility which may help  you to complete your goal.

Nice topic. This is what I am facing and trying in my organization.

In my opinion, and what we are trying to do is as follows: (Not complete list as strategy is still being finalized :-))

1.Create the awareness

Mostly, where there are many platforms and many brands are present, I feel, foremost step is to inject the 'funda' of usability. 

Specially using platform when the entire company gathers, like open house or address from CEO etc.

2. Contest

Rolling out contest on usability, to further reinforce the concept. Its impossible to make others understand what is it through mere presentation. 

Make them "do" something in this domain.

3. Ask for Volunteers

To join in and form a core group from various Brands (That's my case as we have multi-brands)
